UTTARADIT, Jan 21 – The cabinet resolved to continue the “One District One Scholarship” project initiated by ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, elder brother of Prime Minister Yingluck, Government spokesman Tossaporn Serirak said today.
This year the government will spend Bt395 million on the project and from 2014-2020, it plans to spend Bt14 billion for young people to study in non-Anglo-Saxon countries such as Chile, Brazil, Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, Hong Kong, South Korea and Indonesia, he said.
Students are required to pass both written examinations and interviews.
The spokesman said the prime minister instructed the education ministry to help students prepare for language learning before they go to study overseas.
Each year, they are required to return home to share their experience with intending scholarship students. Officials of state agencies must train students who have graduated students to give them work experience.
