Government develops elders’ healthcare system

BANGKOK – The government has developed a long-term plan to provide healthcare for elders, in preparation for the Kingdom’s transition towards an aging society. 

The government has revealed through its radio broadcast regards new projects to improve the healthcare system for about 100,000 elders with dependencies in 1,092 sub-district nationwide with a 600 million baht budget.

The plan will bring healthcare team to visit the elders’ home to educate their families on the proper method of care towards elders and provide health advice, to reduce the bed occupancy rate in hospitals and encourage the exchange of healthcare knowledge.

More elders are now able to participate as members of society, with a reduction of long term bed-ridden cases and exclusion from community. The government is constantly improving its healthcare service for elders to improve their quality of life, and lessen the national budget spent on providing medication as people in all ages will become more healthy.
