BANGKOK, 4 May 2015 – The government plans to host a festival to showcase the quality fruit and vegetables of Thailand this week.
Government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp said that Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, on 6th May, will chair the official opening of the festival, which will take place at the Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem market in Bangkok.
According to Mr. Yongyuth, the festival is intended to allow farmers and retailers to present their products at fair prices.
He added that all who participate in the project will be able to sell their fresh produce directly to consumers as they will not have to work through middlemen, while taking the opportunity to build their own business network and promoting local culture and the nature of Thainess.
Mr. Yongyuth went on to say that the Agriculture Ministry’s Department of Agricultural Extension will be the key agency in organizing this event, which is scheduled to run from May 6th to 31st and will be joined by the operators of 70 booths.
