BANGKOK,(NNT) – The government is looking to push for a strong cooperative system as a sustainable solution to the agricultural sector’s ongoing economic problems.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd disclosed that the government is encouraging farmers and community enterprises to form cooperatives as a sustainable solution to the agricultural sector’s woes because each of farmer or enterprise cannot solve the problem alone, but cooperatives can provide them capital, bargaining power in trading and support from the government sector.
The PMO spokesman said that the government has linked cooperatives with electronic commerce in accordance with the policy to promote the digital economy, known as “Thailand 4.0.” The hope is to increase marketing channels in order to reach consumers worldwide through the development of a website, www.co-opclick.com, which provides information on cooperatives’ quality products, including rice, drinking water, milk, coffee, consumer goods, processed products, fruits, fishery and OTOP products
The PMO spokesman went on to say that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha also remarked that Thailand has a lot of potential in electronic commerce and agricultural products should benefit from this technology.
