Government Lottery Office to impose harsher penalities for retail violations

BANGKOK, 21 May 2015 – The Government Lottery Office (GLO) has announced that it will spare no effort to bring to justice sellers who have overpriced their lottery tickets, adding that it will dispatch special teams to search for rogue operators.

GLO Chairman Major General Apirat Kongsompong confirmed that lottery tickets for the June 16 drawing, which will be available on June 2, must be sold at 80 baht per pair. Those caught in violation of the price regulation will face a jail term of one month and/or a fine of 10,000 baht.

The GLO has appointed ten fact-finding teams consisting of personnel from the army, police, Revenue Department and Department of Special Investigation (DSI).

The ad hoc teams, are deployed across ten major cities. They have been assigned to track down lottery retailers that violate the price regulation.

General Apirat disclosed that the GLO has received incriminating information on major lottery agencies and is prepared to impose harsher punishments, such as seizing assets.
