BANGKOK, 10 August 2015, The government is reportedly pushing for village funding to stimulate local economy, after Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha instructed officials to facilitate various funds whose management has proven problematic.
The comment was made by Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd. He talked about the administration’s campaign to increase the existing village fund by one million baht. Currently, there are 18,566 funds awaiting public subsidy.
General Prayut asked authorities to increase village funding within a few months. The move is meant to help stimulate local economy across the nationwide, provide another channel for financial aid and promote money-saving among locals.
However, the PM spokesman said that some of these programs reported sufficient resources to cover their operations and have declined to apply for additional funds. Other funds are facing management problems and cannot handle the increasing budget.
In order to help village funds that face management difficulty, the Prime Minister has instructed officials to give advice on various aspects, such bookkeeping, debtor eligibility, and maintain savings at the local level.
