The government is keen to list a popular tourist destination in Chiang Maj as a World Heritage Site.
Amidst myriad tourist destinations known to travelers, the Phar Chor Canyon or Grand Canyon of Thailand is one of the oldest and is believed to be millions of years old.
Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Tanasak Patimapragorn recently led a team of local officials and executives from the Tourism Ministry to inspect the area in preparation for the proposal to list Pha Chor as a new World Heritage Site.
Gen. Tanasak said that Pha Chor Canyon represents invaluable natural beauty, which has been well-cherished.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that he has also asked the Tourism Authority of Thailand to combine interests with the Mae Wang National Park to work on a plan to develop a tourist route to connect it with other nearby destinations in order to attract more visitors. (NNT)
