Government welcomes domestic and international views on reform

BANGKOK, Dec 3 — Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn said the Thai government welcomes all reform ideas from everyone, including those within the country, Thais living abroad andr from the international community.

The deputy premier told the press after the opening ceremony of the “On the Path to Reform Forum”, at the Shangri-la Hotel Wednesday, that Thailand is aiming to create a stage for both domestic and international agencies to voice their ideas and opinions on Thailand’s reform paths.

The deputy prime minister said the forum is the first of its kind, and that the government would continue to hold such forums in all sectors, as they are considered as important steps in creating an understanding of the government’s reform policies.

Gen Tanasak said all good ideas and opinions would be gathered and would be continually developed in order to find the best method for reform. He affirmed that the government would listen to all parties, where the opinions and ideas from Thais living abroad would be collected by each country respective Royal Thai embassy and forwarded to the National Reform Council (NRC).

Meanwhile, National Legislative Assembly (NLA) President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said every move that Thailand makes is seen by the international community, so it is vital to welcome the ideas and opinions from the rest of the world.

Welcoming ideas from other countries does not mean we have to follow everything they suggest but should adjust what has been shared with us to suit the system and the style of Thai society without neglecting international principles.
