BANGKOK, 16 June 2015 – The Governor of Bangkok is checking the drainage capacity of the water pumps and central canal in Bang Kapi district in Bangkok today, while requesting each districts to perform garbage cleanup every Sundays.

The Governor of Bangkok, Sukhumbhand Paribatra and executives of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) today checked the Khlong Lam Phang Phuai Canal water pump station in Soi Ladprao 101, Bang Kapi District, Bangkok.

The Governor said that the area in Soi Ladprao 101 is considered flood-prone as it is a low area, while the only water drainage canal serving the area is equipped to sustain inundations during heavy rainfalls. Therefore, the BMA has addressed this issue by constructing a water pump station to facilitate the drainage of excess water.

The Khlong Lam Phang Phuai Canal water pump station is capable of draining eight cubic meters of water per second, and is one of fifteen water drainage development projects in Bangkok. The Khlong Lam Phang Phuai Canal water pump station serves the 100 square meter area that covers the Wangthonglang District, Ladprao District, Bueng Kum District, and Bang Kapi District.

The governor also said that he has appointed all district chiefs to oversee the collection of discarded garbage every Sunday, with a special assistance request extended to the residents of communities residing next to canals and rivers.

The 2.5 kilometer long Khlong Lam Phang Phuai Canal is connected to the Bueng Lam Phang Phuai Lake that is a retention basin, capable of holding 200,000 to 403,970 cubic meters of water, before it is released into the Chao Phraya River through canals and drainage tunnels.
