BANGKOK, 9 August 2012  – The Prime Minister has pledged to adopt HM the King’s advice to build understanding and offer development to solve the years-long unrest in the country’s southern border area.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said the meeting of the Policy Committee to Resolve Problems in the Southern Border Provinces on Wednesday agreed that a new central command center in charge of the southern unrest will adhere to all nine strategies mapped out by the National Security Council (NSC).

The PM added that the meeting also discussed the allocation of budget for the command center in order to help it focus on the building of understanding and accessibility of residents of the southern border region as well as to improve their quality of life, all of which are hoped to help restore peace in this violence-torn area.

The Prime Minister noted that more time is needed to effectively solve the problems on the Deep South.

She also said that there was no talk on the imposition of the curfew rule in the southern border provinces, while asking all media to be more cautious in reporting any situation in the strife-torn region so that the public will not be panicked for nothing.
