BANGKOK, 24 February 2014 – The government has praised Mr. Teerasil Dangda, a Thai footballer, for his success after signing with UD Almeria in Spain. He will be moving to his new club next season.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul met with Muangthong United striker Teerasil Dangda who will be playing in La Liga with Almeria on loan next season.

The deputy prime minister commented that Teerasil is making a history for Thai football as he will be the first Thai player to play in Europe’s greatest league, adding that the striker could be one of those Asian stars shining in big European clubs like Hidetoshi Nakata who played in Italian Serie A and Park Ji-Sung who played several years with English champions, Manchester United.

Almeria completed the signing of the Thai striker on Feb 20. The star of Asian football has been a target of many European clubs including Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old striker had a trial period with Atletico Madrid once and also spent some time training at Manchester City. Teerasil Dangda is set to leave for Spain in July to train with his new team before the new season starts.
