BANGKOK, 1 March 2013 The Prime Minister has assured the government is ready to work with all parties with knowledge of Deep South insurgency in order to solve this years-long problem in a more effective approach.
PM Yingluck Shinawatra said on Thursday that Thailand has explained to Malaysia its approach to tackle insurgent violence in the country’s southern border region through economic and social development, which is hoped to be a sustainable solution for the problem.
The Premier also assured Malaysia that Thailand will always be ready to discuss the issue with all related parties to nip fire in the bud, under the government’s well laid-out strategies and under the Thai Constitutional framework.
Ms. Yingluck said the Malaysian PM has, in return, stated Malaysia’s readiness to help Thailand achieve sustainable peace, possibly through talks and negotiations.
In this regard, both Thailand and Malaysia agreed to call for an end to an act of violence against the innocent so that trust among different sides can be restored.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak showed appreciation to the signing of the peace agreement between Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC) and the insurgent group Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), which he reckoned will be instrumental in promoting peace in Southeast Asia.
Mr. Razak also expressed enthusiasm to mediate and coordinate further talks between Thai authorities and other parties to restore peace in Thailand’s far South while conceding that the meeting between the NSC and the BRN was made possible by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
