BANGKOK, 29 March 2015 – Deputy Government Spokesman Maj. Sansern Kaeokamnerd has said the government is pushing for solutions to the problem of human trafficking in the fishery sector and called for cooperation from the media.

Speaking about labor abuses in the Thai fishing industry, Maj. Sansern said it was not the whole truth that Thailand would likely be in the lowest tier of the Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing (IUU). Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was trying every way possible to solve the country’s problems so that Thailand had better evaluation results. He added that the government was doing the utmost in helping the fishing industry and suggested the media make sure that their news reporting was in the best interest of the country.

21 Thai fishing workers arrested in Indonesia returned home with the help of the government on 27 March 2015. Six more fishing workers are expected to arrive in Thailand on 1 April 2015.
