BANgKOK, 24 January 2014 The government has not yet officially reacted to the charter court’s decision to approve the election postponement. PM’s Office Minister Warathep Rattanakorn has expressed his view that the polls should not be put off since the country is still caught in deep conflicts.

PM’s Office Minister Warathep said the government and the Election Commission (EC) would discuss the postponement of the general election in detail after the Constitution Court ruled that the polls could be delayed. The minister viewed that the election should not be postponed if the political conflicts were still unresolved.

Mr Warathep also suggested the opposition Democrat party contest the polls and the anti-government protesters stop rallying to unlock the political impasse.
