BANGKOK, 9 May 2012 – The government is set to organize a grand celebration to commemorate His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s fifth cycle birthday anniversary on July 28th, 2012.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today assigned Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit to chair the first meeting of the organizing committee for the grand celebration on her behalf.
Mr Yongyuth informed the meeting that senior advisors have been appointed to the committee including Privy Council president General Prem Tinsulanonda, the Parliament Speaker, the Supreme Court President, and the Senate Speaker. According to him, the Royal Household Bureau has drafted a schedule of royal ceremonies on the day which has been forwarded to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn for approval.
The meeting then considered plans and projects to celebrate the occasion. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is entrusted to organize an alms-giving ceremony involving 61 monks in Bangkok, while local administrative offices will hold similar events in their respective areas, in which people will be invited to fully participate.
The Religious Affairs Department will coordinate with offices of other religious sects practiced in Thailand to join in the celebration by sending representatives to perform their religious functions dedicated to the Crown Prince on the day. Buddhist temples across the country will be informed of the merit-making ceremony and chanting of prayers so that all will hold the religious rituals at the same time on July 28th.
