BANGKOK, Thailand – Guatemala celebrated its 203rd Independence Day with a vibrant event in Thailand, showcasing the strengthening ties between the two nations. This celebration highlights the diplomatic relationship that has flourished since 1957.

H.E. Mrs. Shirley Dennise Aguilar Barrera, the Guatemalan Ambassador to Thailand, addressed attendees, emphasizing Guatemala’s rich cultural heritage and the significance of national identity. She noted the similarities in cultural and agricultural practices shared by both countries.

Ambassador Aguilar pointed out that trade between Guatemala and Thailand has surged by over 20% in recent years, reflecting a promising economic partnership. She highlighted efforts to promote Guatemalan products, particularly coffee and rum, as a means to further enhance commercial relations.



A key development in the bilateral relationship is the recent removal of visa requirements for Guatemalan citizens traveling to Thailand. The ambassador described this as a significant advancement that is expected to boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges, paving the way for new economic opportunities.
