The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued recommendations for safely enjoying beach activities during the summer season.

DDPM Director-General Chaiwat Chuntirapong emphasized the importance of checking the weather conditions before setting out and selecting safe locations to avoid deep waters or areas with high waves.

Chaiwat advised wearing life jackets while engaging in water activities and avoiding areas with watercraft such as jet skis or water scooters, which pose potential hazards. Additionally, beachgoers should steer clear of rocky areas and heed warning signs to prevent accidents.

Supervising children closely while at the beach is crucial, especially after rainfall when sea conditions can become particularly treacherous with higher and more dangerous waves. The Director-General reiterated the importance of following the guidelines provided by authorities to ensure all activities are conducted safely.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the department has the 24-hour safety hotline 1784, allowing the public to report incidents and request assistance promptly. (NNT)
