BANGKOK, 10 May 2013 Investigators are confident they have identified the culprit who hacked into the website of the Prime Minister’s Office, and says the individual earlier hacked the website of Channel 3 television.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung said the hacker lived in Nakhon Si Thammarat, and officials were tracking his whereabouts. Police Captain Chalerm said he was not specifically told by the prime minister to handle this case, but was looking into this case because it caused damage to the Government House, which was an important state office.

The police’s technology crime suppression chief, Police Major General Phisit Pao-in, said a task force has been set up to locate the source of the malicious attacks, and the culprit is already known. However, further details cannot be divulged because investigators are gathering more evidence and witnesses in order to issue an arrest warrant for the perpetrator.
