BANGKOK- The Ministry of Public Health and four other agencies have launched a campaign to provide free cornea transplants in honor of Her Majesty the Queen’s 84th birthday anniversary on August 12 this year.
Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn presided over a signing ceremony for an agreement between the Ministry of Public Health, the Thai Red Cross Society and three health funds.
Dr. Piyasakol said the ministry will provide financial support and human resources for the campaign, while the Red Cross Society has been tasked with managing cornea supplies. Donations for the campaign will be accepted at public hospitals.
The three health funds, which are managed by the National Health Security Office, the Social Security Office and the Comptroller General’s Department, will shoulder all medical expenses for eligible patients.
The five-year campaign will run from August 12, this year until August 12, 2021. Over the course of the campaign, the ministry hopes to provide medical aid to as many as 8,400 patients.
