BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Medical Services and the Department of Disease Control under the Ministry of Public Health reported on August 27, that four people have died as a result of exposure to methanol poisoning from contaminated herbal liquor and bootleg alcohol. An additional 10 patients remain in critical condition.
Since August 22, a total of 33 cases have been recorded in Bangkok, involving individuals ranging in age from 22 to 69 years old. Among the cases, 10 patients are in severe condition (classified as red), 10 are in moderate condition (yellow), and 9 are stable (green). Of these patients, 14 are on ventilators, 21 have undergone dialysis, and 6 have received CPR.
Epidemiological analysis reveals that 24 patients are experiencing acidosis, 20 have blurred vision, 21 are experiencing difficulty breathing, 18 have developed kidney failure, 5 have had seizures, and 5 have lost consciousness. Seven patients are currently asymptomatic.
The affected patients have been treated across various hospitals. The Ministry continues to monitor the situation closely and is urging the public to avoid consuming unlicensed alcohol.
