Strong winds and high waves are expected in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for January 10-13, forecasting increased rainfall with heavy showers in parts of southern Thailand. Strong winds and high waves are expected in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.

According to the 24-hour forecast, a strong high-pressure system from China has extended over upper northeastern Thailand and is expected to reach the lower northeastern region today (January 10, 2025). This system will further expand across upper Thailand, resulting in lower temperatures and strong winds in the northeast.

Northern Thailand will remain cool to cold with morning fog, while central Thailand, Bangkok and its vicinity, the eastern region, and upper southern Thailand will experience cool mornings. Mountainous areas will see very cold to frigid temperatures.

The public in upper Thailand and the northern part of the southern region are advised to take precautions to protect their health due to the cold weather, as well as to guard against fire hazards caused by dry conditions. Drivers should exercise caution when traveling in foggy areas.

The strengthening northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will bring increased rainfall to the southern region. Waves in the Gulf are expected to reach 2 meters and exceed 2 meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms.

From January 10-13, the strong northeast monsoon is expected to cause heavy rain in the lower southern region. Wave heights in the Gulf of Thailand are forecast to be 2-4 meters and more than 4 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The Andaman Sea will have waves of 1-2 meters, rising to 2-3 meters offshore and exceeding 3 meters during storms.
