CHIANG MAI, Thailand Continuous heavy rainfall throughout the night has led to widespread flooding across various parts of Chiang Mai city, September 23. Areas with a history of recurrent flooding, such as Kad Kom, Sri Ping Mueang, and Nantaram, were once again inundated early this morning, causing residents to scramble to move their belongings to higher ground.

In particular, the area around Kad Kom Market and the road near Chiang Mai College of Dramatic Arts experienced water levels rising between 30-50 centimeters, while Nantaram Road, Soi 5G, saw flooding nearly 1 meter deep. Residents, dormitories, and shops in these areas rushed to place sandbags and evacuate belongings to prevent water damage. Transportation through these areas was severely disrupted.

In Hang Dong District, heavy rainfall caused flooding along the inbound Chiang Mai-Hang Dong road, especially near Kad Farang Market, where water levels reached 50 centimeters, making it impassable for vehicles. Traffic authorities have temporarily directed cars to use the outbound lanes, causing significant traffic congestion. Drivers are advised to take the parallel irrigation canal road to avoid the flooded routes and heavy traffic.

Additionally, Mahidol Road near Chiang Mai International Airport was also flooded, with water levels around 30 centimeters. Although vehicles can still pass, drivers are urged to proceed cautiously, as traffic in the area has slowed significantly due to the flooding.
