BANGKOK, ThailandThailand’s Meteorological Department has issued a warning for severe weather in northern and northeastern regions, where some areas are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. The central, eastern, and southern regions are also forecasted to have heavy rain in isolated spots. Residents in affected areas are urged to stay alert for potential flash floods and runoff, especially in mountainous regions, near waterways, and low-lying areas.

The heavy rain is attributed to a strong monsoon trough passing over northern Thailand and the upper northeastern region, connecting to a low-pressure system near Hainan Island, China. Meanwhile, a moderate southwest monsoon is covering the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, central Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Wind convergence over the southern regions and the lower Gulf of Thailand is also contributing to these conditions.

In addition to the rain, moderate sea conditions are expected in both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Waves in the northern Andaman Sea (from Phang Nga province upward) are forecasted to reach heights of 1-2 meters, while the southern Andaman Sea (from Phuket down) and the Gulf of Thailand will see waves up to 1 meter high. However, in areas with thunderstorms, waves may exceed 2 meters. Seafarers are advised to exercise caution and avoid navigating in stormy areas.

For Bangkok and surrounding areas, scattered thunderstorms will cover 60% of the region, with heavy rain in some parts. Temperatures will range from 24-26°C during the night to 32-35°C in the daytime. (TNA)
