YALA, 16 March 2014  A sudden rain in the southern province of Yala has eased the effect of severe drought that has hit the province in the past two months.

On Saturday, many areas in the province were battered by heavy rain, freshening up orchards and plants which were dying from lack of water, as it has not rained in the area for two months.

Although the rain helped ease the drought effects, the amount of water from the Saturday’s precipitation was not enough to add water to the dried up Bueng Baemoh, a swamp, a major water source in Yala.

Water levels in the Pattanee River and other canals that run through the city remain low, causing water shortage problems for the agriculture sector
