The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall expected to sweep across various regions of Thailand from May 22 to 26.

According to TMD Director-General Kornrawee Sitthichivapak, the impending weather is due to an intensification of southwesterly winds across Thailand. From the start of next week, these winds will affect the Andaman Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, and several provinces.

Residents in the western parts of the North, the Central Plain, and southern regions of Thailand have been urged to brace for potential flash floods and runoff, which could result from the forecasted heavy rains. The advisory stresses the importance of preparedness in these areas to mitigate the impact of the expected severe weather conditions.

The TMD has also cautioned mariners about rough sea conditions, with wave heights in the Andaman Sea projected to reach between two and three meters from Tuesday to Sunday. Authorities have advised against boating in the upper parts of the Andaman Sea during this period and have called for heightened caution for those navigating the waters of the Gulf of Thailand and the lower Andaman Sea.
