Heavy rain pounded several areas in the southern region of Thailand, particularly in Trang province, Southern Thailand, leading to disruptions in air travel and leaving over 150 passengers stranded, on December 13.
The downpour affected Trang Airport, causing difficulties for flights to take off and land. Thai Lion Air’s flight from Bangkok’s Don Mueang to Trang, scheduled to arrive at Trang Airport around 4:35 PM, was unable to land due to the heavy rain and poor visibility.
After circling the airport multiple times, the aircraft eventually diverted to Phuket Airport and attempted to return to Trang Airport around 6:00 PM but faced the same landing challenges.
Consequently, the decision was made to return to Bangkok, resulting in the cancellation of the scheduled flight from Trang to Bangkok. This left more than 150 passengers stranded at the airport.
Similarly, an AirAsia flight from Don Mueang to Trang, scheduled to arrive at Trang Airport at 6:55 PM, also encountered difficulties in landing. The aircraft had to circle the airport but was unable to land, leading to a diversion to Krabi Airport. Eventually, the flight returned to Trang Airport and successfully landed around 8:00 PM, causing significant delays for all passengers.
Despite the disruptions, both airlines ensured that passengers were taken care of. Thai Lion Air arranged hotel accommodations and buses for passengers unable to travel due to the flight cancellations.
All affected passengers were provided with transportation to hotels and facilitated arrangements for their travel today. (TNA)
