Heavy traffic builds on Mittraphap Road in Pak Chong as holiday travelers return to Bangkok on the last day of the New Year break.

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Thailand – On the final day of the New Year holiday, traffic on Mittraphap Road in Pak Chong District is heavily congested as people return to Bangkok, though vehicles are still moving steadily, January 1.

As the New Year holiday comes to an end, many are traveling back to Bangkok after visiting their hometowns to celebrate. With January 2 marking the first workday for many, Mittraphap Road has become heavily congested in the Pak Chong area. Vehicles are moving at a steady pace, with speeds of 40-60 kilometers per hour in some areas.

Key congestion points include Kilometer Marker 52 in front of Chokchai Farm and the uphill curve near Kilometer Markers 53-54 at Mo Bandai Ma. Traffic is also heavy on the bypass road under the overpass leading to Khao Yai, with all four lanes filled with vehicles.

To manage the traffic, the Nakhon Ratchasima Highway Police have set up cones and are prepared to open special lanes in multiple locations if congestion worsens. Traffic volume is expected to increase further in the afternoon and evening, potentially leading to more severe gridlock. (TNA)
