BANGKOK, 28 March 2012 – The Bangkok’s City Council has been inspecting high-rise buildings and entertainment venues in 50 districts of Bangkok to ensure people of the buildings’ safety systems.
City Council President Suthichai Virakulsunthorn and other representatives from the engineering department and Jom Tong District have already inspected the 12-storey Bangpakok 9 International Hospital and the 20-storey Por Charoenphan Building.
Both buildings have been found to be in compliance with the standard of the 1992 Building Safety Control Act. They also have a heliport for use in case of emergencies.
Mr Suthichai said at the moment, some high-rise buildings constructed before 1992 still lack safety standard; adding the district authorities have been giving them advice so the building owners could follow the procedures.
The City Council has assigned all of Bangkok’s 50 district offices to report on their inspections on high buildings. Those who violate the safety law will be prosecuted.
