BANGKOK, 1 June 2015 – Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Pol.Gen. Ek Angsananont called a meeting between investigators and prosecutors on the progress of the investigation into human trafficking cases in southern provinces. The cases will be forwarded to the Attorney-General on 20 June 2015.
Pol.Gen. Ek said the investigations had very much progressed with sufficient evidence to press charges against the detained suspects. One of the key suspect who had been arrested in Myanmar would be brought back to Thailand for prosecution as soon as possible, the deputy police chief said.
There are 84 human trafficking suspects with arrest warrants. 51 of them have been arrested and the rest have remained at large. A high-ranking army officer is reportedly one of the suspects.
