BANGKOK, Thailand – On December 1, Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana participated in the 10-kilometer race of the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok 2024, part of the “Run Through the City” event. The marathon, held for the 7th year, promotes global tourism and is contested for the Royal Cup from His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen, and Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha. The total prize pool for the event was 2,440,500 Baht.
The event was launched by Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, who started the 42km and 21km races at Phaya Thai Road in front of MBK Center, Pathumwan. Queen Suthida joined the 10km race at Sanam Luang, Ratchadamnoen Avenue in Phra Nakhon District. Legendary marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and world marathon record holder, also participated in the 10km race as a “Sports and Cultural Tourism Ambassador” for Thailand.
The event, organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), and Thailand Tri-League, took place from 2:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The starting point was MBK Center on Phaya Thai Road, with the finish line at Sanam Luang.
This marathon event has signed a memorandum of understanding between the four organizations for a five-year collaboration (2023-2027) to make it part of the “Official Major Capital City Marathon Series” of the IAAF. The marathon aims to promote Bangkok as a sports tourism destination and boost the country’s tourism economy.
This year, the event attracted a record-breaking 33,000 participants from 77 countries, contributing over 650 million Baht to the national economy, both directly and indirectly.
