Members of the House Committee on police affairs have inquired about ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra’s extended hospital stay during their visit to Police General Hospital on Friday.
The committee members led by the chairman Chaichana Detdecho visited and inspected the operations of the police hospital at the Sriyanon building at 10 a.m. on Friday. They asked the medical team about prolonged medical treatment of inmates outside of prison for more than 120 days including the case of convicted ex-premier Thaksin.
The chairman said today’s visit was in accordance with Article 129, granting authority to the House Committee to investigate public concerns. They were committed to following legal frameworks and ensuring the rights of detainees were not violated.
The visit aimed to address societal doubts regarding Thaksin’s extended treatment. If information remains incomplete, the Department of Corrections and the police hospital are expected to provide further clarification to the public, he said.
Regarding Thaksin’s medical treatment outside the prison exceeding 120 days, he said that it was within the jurisdiction of the Department of Corrections to review and comply with regulations.
He acknowledged that illnesses could occur unexpectedly, and the Department of Corrections had previously disclosed that two detainees had received treatment outside the prison exceeding 120 days. -819 (TNA)
