‘Human Rights Council Elections 2024 – Discussions of Candidate States’ Visions’ online pledging event

On this occasion, Director-General Jayanama reiterated Thailand’s visions and pledges for its candidature to the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2025-2027 at both international and national levels.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Miss Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, participated in an online pledging event “Human Rights Council Elections 2024: Discussions of Candidate States’ Visions,” which was co-organized by Amnesty International and International Services for Human Rights (ISHR) and co-sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Bulgaria to the United Nations in New York on 4 September 2024.

On this occasion, Director-General Jayanama reiterated Thailand’s visions and pledges for its candidature to the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2025-2027 at both international and national levels. At the international level, Thailand pledges to work with all partners to maximize the impact of the Council’s work on the ground through: (1) being a constructive member and bridge-builder who promotes dialogue; (2) ensuring that the Council addresses all dimensions of human rights, including emerging challenges; (3) advocating technical cooperation and capacity-building in the field of human rights; and (4) working with partners to rationalize and further enhance the effectiveness of the Council.

At the national level, Thailand has made various progress, including through policies like Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Education for All. Director-General Jayanama also highlighted Thailand’s commitments to: (1) promoting and protecting both civil and political rights and economic, social and cultural rights; (2) promoting equity, equality and social justice; and (3) protecting those in vulnerable situations. Thailand has also confirmed its readiness to receive an official visit of the Working Group on Discrimination against Women and Girls in December this year.


This online pledging event has been organized for 14 consecutive years with the objective to serve as a forum for States to present their candidatures in the HRC candidates, particularly visions and strategies as well as respond to questions posed by civil society organizations. This year, 12 States (out of 19 States), who have presented the candidatures to HRC for the term 2025-2027, participated in this event; namely, Colombia, Cyprus, Czechia, Iceland, Marshall Islands, Mexico, North Macedonia, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand.
