BANGKOK, 24 April 2015 – ICT Minister Pornchai Rujiprapa expressed his satisfaction with the six-month performance of the ministry under Gen Prayut’s administration in order to support the development of the digital economy in Thailand.
The ministry has launched a set of new laws both those that directly drive the digital economy and others that support it. These laws include an electronic transactions law, Data Protection Law and Cyber Security Law. They are now waiting for enactment.
Various committees were also established for this particular purposes, for example, the National Broadband Committee, and the Committee of e-Trade Promotion. They had input in formulating plans for the digital economy for the whole country.
Various forms of cyber crime were cracked down on by a committee for Prevention and Suppression of Security System and Cyber Security malfeasance. The measures covered lese majesty websites, obscenity websites and online scams.
The ICT Ministry is preparing to be transferred to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) along with the newly launched structure of management to be instigated in August.
Another two divisions were set up namely the Office of Digital Economy and Society as well as the Office of Digital Economy Promotion.
