BANGKOK, Thailand – A joint operation led by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), along with the Bangkok Metropolitan Police, successfully raided an illegal Chinese gambling den located in Soi Saha Karn Pramoon, Wang Thonglang district, November 5. The authorities arrested 21 suspects involved in illegal poker gambling activities.
The police seized a variety of gambling-related items, including hundreds of gambling chips in different denominations, two decks of cards, and chip exchange tables. The raid came after multiple public complaints about gambling activities in the area. Investigations revealed that the gambling group, mostly Chinese nationals, coordinated through social media platforms like WeChat to organize gatherings at different locations, operating as a “pop-up” gambling den.
The premises, once a Chinese restaurant that closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, had been converted into an illegal gambling venue without any signage indicating its new purpose.
The 21 individuals arrested confessed to participating in the gambling activities. They now face charges of illegal gambling, conducting unauthorized gambling activities, and organizing illegal gambling operations. The suspects have been taken to the Wang Thonglang police station for further legal processing.
