BANGKOK, Nov 26 — The whip committee of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) plans to start the impeachment process against former Senate speaker Nikom Wairatpanij and former House speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont in early January next year.
The schedule for impeachment of former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra has not been set.
Surachai Liengboonlertchai, first vice president of the Assembly and deputy chief of its whip committee, said the NLA would decide tomorrow whether it would allow Mr Nikhom to present additional evidence and witnesses. Mr Nikhom intended to present by himself.
Mr Surachai said representatives of the National Anti-Corruption Commission would state whether the panel would object to the additional evidence and witnesses.
The whip committee will set the date to begin the impeachment process by the Assembly. It had initially planned for either January 8 or 9, Mr Surachai said.
Afterwards the NLA will form a 21-member inquiry committee to handle the case. The process should be finished by the end of January, he said.
The NLA will meet on Friday to set the beginning of the impeachment process against Ms Yingluck, Mr Surachai added.
