Intelligence tip-off prompts security alert in Yala

YALA, 29 January 2015 – Yala police have tightened security in the province following a series of recent attacks on civilians and law enforcement officers in the Deep South.

Police have been checking and examining individuals and vehicles entering Yala at various points to prevent attacks in the populated area of Muang district.

Vehicles are being searched for any hidden explosives. Those wearing a mask or a helmet are asked to reveal their faces before they are allowed to pass through the checkpoint.

Security alert levels have been raised following an intelligence tip-off suggesting more attacks are possible this month and next.
