Bangkok – Bangkok Governor, Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, has confirmed that the resignation of his two deputies has nothing to do with the 10-billion-baht incinerator construction project undertaken by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has sent a letter requiring the Permanent Secretary for the BMA to clarify the project.

Pol. Gen. Aswin dismissed rumors of favoritism in the project, which has now seen the resignation of his deputies, Jakkapan Phiewngam and Thaweesak Lertprapan. The Bangkok Governor insisted that he will complete his term, which has a few months left, with transparency.

NACC Secretary-General, Worawit Sukboon, said the BMA’s incinerator construction project is under investigation. He promised that the commission will finish investigating the case within a 180-day time frame, which can be extended by a further 90 days.

Two incinerators worth more than 10 billion baht are to be constructed in Nong Khaem and On Nut districts.

Interior Minister, Gen. Anupong Paojinda, said the project will be considered by many committees, including a central committee chaired by the Permanent Secretary for the Interior, before his approval. Gen. Anupong expressed his confidence that no corruption will emerge in the project.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok Governor signed an order to appoint Sakchai Boonma and Pol. Lt. Gen. Sophon Phitsutthiwong as his new deputies in charge of environmental and public health affairs respectively, Their appointments were endorsed by the Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha.
