BANGKOK, 4 March 2013 The Interior Ministry has called for a meeting with related agencies to discuss contingency plans for possible energy crisis in April.
Interior Minister Charupong Ruangsuwan, on Monday, chaired a meeting with chiefs of all units under the ministry to discuss measures and energy savings policies for Thailand, to be implemented during the period when Myanmar halts the gas delivery for pipeline maintenance during April 5-14.
The meeting was also joined by representatives from other agencies, including the Energy Ministry, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), the Department of Provincial Administration, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).
In addition, the discussion at the Interior Ministry shed light on long-term approaches and measures to deal with possible energy crisis in the future.
The Cabinet, on February 19, already reached a resolution that urged all state offices to save energy by 10% to accommodate the impact of Myanmar’s pipeline maintenance
Mr. Charupong said the Interior Ministry is now ready to join in the energy conservation campaign although it is expected that the impact of the upcoming gas delivery suspension, which has been anticipated every year.
