BANGKOK, Jan 28 – The Ministry of Commerce is sponsoring a Made in Thailand in Focus Fair to bring international buyers to seal business deals with Thai manufacturers.
It hopes the fair will help promote Thai products and that sales at the event should amount to at least Bt300 million.
After opening the fair at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) today, Deputy Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said international participants expected to discuss deals at the event. Coming from Southeast Asia — including Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia — and further afield including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The positive responses showed the success of the Department of International Trade Promotion in actively promoting Thai products in Southeast Asia which will form a single market and production base after the establishment of the ASEAN Community this year, Ms Apiradi said.
The Thai exports exceeded US$200 billion last year, with one-quarter of that representing export to ASEAN nations.
She hopes the Made in Thailand in Focus fair can significantly help the country raise the value of its export by 4 per cent this year as the Ministry of Commerce has forecast.
The fair should attract at least 20,000 visitors, she said. and sales should reach at least Bt300 million.
