PHUKET, Thailand – A disturbing incident occurred on March 17, when an Iranian tourist went on a violent rampage at a hotel in Karon, Phuket. The 44-year-old man reportedly used a syringe to threaten and attack hotel staff.

Police officers found the Iranian tourist acting violently and refusing to listen to attempts at negotiation or calming down. He had been using a syringe to threaten and chase after hotel staff, causing panic among employees and guests. Despite the police’s efforts to negotiate with him for over an hour, the situation escalated as the man continued to act aggressively, shouting loudly and preventing anyone from approaching him.

With the situation deteriorating, authorities called in a specialized “riot control” unit who attempted to use a baton to subdue the man but was met with resistance. After realizing that the situation could not be diffused through traditional means officers decided to deploy a taser to safely detain the tourist.

Once the suspect was incapacitated, police took him into custody and transported him to Karon Police Station for questioning. Investigations are now underway to determine whether the man’s violent behavior was the result of drug use or other underlying causes. Authorities have also contacted the Iranian embassy to inform them of the incident.
