PATTANI, Thailand – The Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 (ISOC Region 4) has launched “Operation 4683 – Ramadan Peace” to enhance security and maintain stability in Thailand’s southern border provinces during the upcoming holy month. A high-level meeting at ISOC Region 4 Headquarters in Pattani, led by Lieutenant General Paisan Nusang, brought together security agencies to coordinate efforts and ensure a peaceful environment for religious observances.

The operation focuses on strengthening territorial control, preventing disruptions, and improving coordination among agencies to support Ramadan traditions. Authorities will implement security measures to address potential threats while allowing Muslim communities to observe the holy month without interference. Security forces have been directed to maintain vigilance and ensure public safety and religious harmony.

To support these efforts, ISOC Region 4 has announced a ban on the sale, purchase, and use of fireworks, firecrackers, and explosive devices from March 1 to April 10 in Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and four districts of Songkhla. Exceptions will be made for officially sanctioned religious and cultural events at designated locations. Violators face penalties of up to two years in prison, fines of up to 40,000 baht, or both.

The announcement follows guidance from the Sheikhul Islam Office of Thailand, which has encouraged Muslim communities to observe the crescent moon sighting on February 28 to determine the official start of Ramadan. The holy month is a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection, emphasizing patience and discipline.

Authorities are urging residents in the southern border provinces to comply with the regulations and contribute to a peaceful and orderly observance of Ramadan. Security measures will be closely coordinated with local communities to ensure the period remains safe and spiritually fulfilling. (NNT)
