Japan pledges continued investment in Thailand’s automotive industry

VIANTIANE – Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra held a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister His Excellency Ishiba Shigeru ahead of the 19th East Asia Summit at 10:15 AM. The two leaders reaffirmed the enduring friendship between Thailand and Japan, emphasizing cooperation across multiple dimensions.

During their discussion, Prime Minister Paetongtarn, despite being newly appointed, assured her Japanese counterpart that her government is committed to continuing policies that foster collaboration between the two countries. She particularly highlighted the ongoing Japanese investment in Thailand’s automotive industry and the development of special economic zones.

Prime Minister Ishiba reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to collaborating with Thailand, especially in the fields of energy, industry, and innovative automotive technologies. He also shared his personal connection with Thailand, having visited the country more than seven times, including for military study tours. Ishiba expressed hopes for further security cooperation, to which Paetongtarn responded by pledging to assign Thailand’s Minister of Defense to engage with Japanese counterparts on security matters.
