Bangkok, 11 August 2019 – Jasmine is a symbol of Mother’s Day and it represents pure love. Children like to use jasmine to express their love for their mothers. The atmosphere surrounding the selling of jasmine in Pak Khlong Talat today, is lively.
The area from Chakphet Road to Maharaj Road is bustling with people, continually arriving to buy jasmine bouquets and garlands. One flower shop owner disclosed today that this year, jasmine is cheaper than in other years because lots of it has come into bloom causing the sale price to be lower than last year when the price of jasmine was from 200 – 300 baht per liter. This year, jasmine is being sold for only 100 baht per liter. Prices of large and small garlands range from 100 to 500 baht.
Meanwhile, at “Wang Lang Market”, Siriraj Pier, vendors are selling lots of blue shirts for people to wear on Mother’s Day, August 12, in honor of the Queen Mother.
The vendors say that sales this year are lower than usual, because people are using their money more sparingly and wearing blue shirts from last year, so some vendors have had to lower shirt prices to make sales.
