BANGKOK, 19 May 2014– Education Minister Jaturong Chaisang has vowed that he and the 11 other ministers urged to step down to make ways for the section 7 appointed interim prime minister, will not do so.
His comment came as a reply to the recent announcement made by Second Vice Senate President Perasak Porjit that the process of seeking the power to enable the Senate to install such a Prime Minister is now over 80% complete.
According to the Education Minister, as long as the interim government remains in power, the senate’s approach cannot be done legally, citing the fact that there are working interim cabinet and working caretaker Prime Minister.
He stressed that a Prime Minister must be an elected member of parliament in accordance with the constitution.
The Education Minister said firmly that the 12 ministers of the current interim cabinet would not step down and that forcing them to do so would be illegal. He would not bow to the pressure, said Jaturon, adding that he and other cabinet members would join forces with the public going against any prime minister coming into power through Section 7; should one be appointed.
