Kanchanaburi – Thong Pha Phum Provincial Court of Kanchanaburi province has granted bail to Italian-Thai Development president Premchai Karnasuta and three company employees accused of poaching at the Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary.
The court on Wednesday spent around two and a half hours completing the defense examination procedure before allowing Premchai and three others, Yong Dodkrua, Nathee Riamsaen, and Thanee Thummat to apply for bail. The suspects have reported to the court for the last round.
Bail was raised to 400,000 baht each for Premchai, Thanee and Yong. Nathee meantime was required to post bail of 150,000 baht for her release. The suspects face at least six charges of trespassing in a wildlife sanctuary and hunting protected animals, including a black Indochinese leopard, a Kalij pheasant and a barking deer.
Premchai insisted he did not order his men to kill the leopard. The court is due to examine the plaintiff’s witnesses on May 21 and has asked the public to trust the justice system.
