SATUN, Thailand – Heavy rains have led to flash floods across multiple areas in Satun province, including La-ngu and Manang districts, as well as Koh Lipe on August 28. The torrential floodwaters, described as a muddy red torrent, surged rapidly through Moo 1, Ban Phang 19, Palm Pattana Subdistrict, Manang District, catching residents off guard and making it impossible for them to move their vehicles to safety. Fortunately, the Rom Sai Satun Rescue Foundation managed to assist in relocating the vehicles to higher, safer ground.
In Nikhom Pattana Subdistrict, Manang District, residents in Phang Palm 1, Phang 18, and Phang 19 are also facing severe flooding, forcing them to urgently move their belongings to higher ground. Despite the rain easing up, the floodwaters remain strong, prompting swift intervention from local authorities in Manang and community leaders to assist those affected.
Military personnel from the Marine Security Unit on Koh Lipe have been deployed to survey low-lying areas in the economic zone of Kampang Subdistrict, La-ngu District. These areas are prone to regular flooding during continuous heavy rainfall. The survey is part of ongoing efforts to prepare for emergency responses and assist residents.
Sakra Kapilkanjan, the Governor of Satun Province, has instructed district and local government organizations to report the damage and the assistance provided to the provincial authorities. He has also emphasized the need for preparedness, ensuring that equipment, machinery, and personnel are on standby to offer immediate help when requested.
Currently, nearly 200 households in La-ngu and Manang districts have been affected by the floods, while on Koh Lipe (Mueang Satun District), around 30 households across two villages are also experiencing severe flooding.
