SURAT THANI, Thailand – Tourism on three renowned islands—Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao—is bustling as tourists steadily arrive, with room bookings for the New Year season reaching up to 90%. The Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Koh Samui Office, confirmed that flights and ferries are sufficient to accommodate the influx of visitors.
Reports indicate that the atmosphere across the islands is lively, particularly at the Lomphraya ferry terminal in Maenam Subdistrict, Koh Samui. Large crowds of tourists were seen purchasing tickets to travel to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao to celebrate Christmas and New Year.
The festive season coincides with the peak of the high season, which begins in late December. Police officers have been stationed at ports on both Koh Samui and Koh Phangan to ensure smooth and safe travel.
Ms. Nittharat Vanicharoen, Director of TAT Koh Samui Office, stated that operators have worked diligently to restore facilities affected by last week’s flooding, preparing for the influx of tourists. Hotel bookings are currently between 80–90%, with numbers expected to remain strong through New Year and into March. She expressed confidence that tourism on the three islands will meet expectations.
However, concerns remain about unpredictable weather, which could impact travel plans. Tourists are advised to check weather conditions before traveling.
