Krabi Airport prepares for high season, anticipates 60% increase in passengers with over 160 weekly flights

Krabi is a key destination for natural attractions in Thailand, and efforts are underway to develop the airport into a major travel hub for the Andaman region, supporting both local tourism and economic growth.

KRABI, Thailand – Manaporn Jaroensri, Deputy Minister of Transport, on October 11, has instructed Krabi Airport to prepare for the upcoming high tourist season, anticipating a 60% increase in passengers and more than 160 weekly flights. The airport expects 11 airlines to operate flights, both domestic and international, boosting tourism and contributing to the national economy.

Manaporn emphasized the need for readiness in terms of personnel and facilities at Krabi Airport to accommodate the influx of passengers from October 2024 to March 2025. These preparations include:

  1. Increasing staff to facilitate services.
  2. Ensuring that all airport facilities are fully operational.
  3. Promoting the use of technology, such as pre-check-ins via mobile apps and electronic ID verification.
  4. Expanding the number of check-in counters from 14 to 16 to reduce congestion.
  5. Enhancing public transportation options to offer seamless travel for tourists.

Dhanai Ruangsorn, Director General of the Department of Airports, stated that Krabi International Airport currently serves six domestic airlines, including Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Thai VietJet, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air, and Thai Airways. It also serves five international airlines such as Flydubai, Scoot Tigerair, and Malindo Air. Additionally, charter flights are operated by TUI fly and LOT Polish Airlines, along with new services from NEOS on the Prague-Krabi route.

The Department of Airports expects Krabi’s flight and passenger volumes to rise by over 60% in October, more than 30% in November, and over 20% in December. The airport is fully prepared to handle this growth during the high season.
