BANGKOK, 21 August 2015 – Krabi province has promoted Halal tourism by setting the goal to be Thailand’s model city to prepare for the expansion of Muslim tourists from all over the world.

Krabi Governor Songphon Sawattham said there was a great number of Muslim tourists visiting Thailand and Krabi. The province had set the “Krabi agenda” with the objective to develop the province as a quality tourist town with a focus on Halal tourism—a new area of tourism management, said the governor.

Krabi had the potential to accommodate an increase in Muslim tourists from other countries and set an example for Halal tourism development with standards, said Mr. Songphon.

The provincial administration has cooperated with relevant organizations in the public and private sectors in making plans to develop the province’s Halal tourism and food. Krabi has signed MOUs with domestic and foreign organizations on the matter.
