KRABI, Thailand – In response to severe weather conditions, Krabi authorities have temporarily suspended ferry services between Phi Phi Islands and Krabi, and closed several popular tourist sites. This decision follows warnings of strong winds, heavy rain, and high waves affecting the Andaman Sea.
The Andaman National Park’s Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi has announced the closure of its attractions due to safety concerns. The park’s Chief Officer, Monaswee Kuewong, has issued a temporary closure of tourist spots, including Phi Phi Leh Island, Bamboo Island, and Ao Nang, as well as popular diving sites around Phi Phi Leh and Phi Phi Don Islands from September 19 to 22.
This closure comes after the Meteorological Department’s warning on September 18 about Tropical Depression No. 5. The department forecasts that the southwest monsoon will bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to the region, with sea waves reaching heights of 2-4 meters, and even higher in stormy areas. Mariners are advised to avoid traveling during this period.
The national park will continue its regular operations, and visitors can still contact park officials for official matters. Meanwhile, ferry operators serving the Krabi-Phi Phi route have also announced a temporary suspension of services starting September 19 due to the adverse weather conditions.
